Involve the whole community – look to expand use of the church. Set up a working group from the church and the community shop committee. Consult with the wider church authorities – it can be complicated. Check impact on current church activities. Is there space? Can funds be raised? Consult planning department about change of use – care will be needed if the church is listed. It may be necessary to pay business rates. There needs to be a formal contract between the church and the community group.
