1352: Evaluation of LEADER+

This paper is summarised from a report by the consultants Metis GmbH (Austria) with AEIDL and CEU as subcontractors: ‘Ex-post evaluation of LEADER+’ The views expressed are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the official opinion of the European Commission.

Year of Publication2011

LEADER+ has contributed to economic diversification, quality of life and preservation and enhancement of the natural and built environment of rural areas by fostering innovation. It should be used for increasing the adaptive capacity of an area, rather than for boosting short term productivity. Meeting needs of minority groups needs attention. It brought local actors together who would not otherwise have met to pursue common goals and this needs to be further developed. Public-private partnerships need to be actively promoted and supported. Steps need to be taken to adopt reliable methodologies to assess success or failure.
