17% of households in rural areas were below the poverty threshold. In urban areas the proportion was 19%. 13% of working age people in rural areas were living below the poverty threshold compared to 16% for England as a whole. 18% of children in England lived in households below the poverty threshold before housing costs the proportion was 15% in rural areas. 20% of pensioners lived in households below the poverty threshold which did not differ between urban and rural areas.
