An overview of the University of Reading's online interactive calculator model to support decisions on the control of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome in finishing pigs.

Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus (PRRSv) is costly to individual businesses and to the pig industry. The model calculates the possible costs associated with losses and control of PRRSv relevant to individual finishing units and the likely benefits of control methods. The hypothetical example provided highlights the costs incurred when PRRSv is present, with some measures in place to control additional infection from enzootic pneumonia. Information is provided on how to access the cost/benefit model and others online without charge.
