Harper Adams' Gateway Guide to a calculator model for comparing different liver fluke control costs in breeding ewes
An overview of the University of Reading's online interactive calculator model to support decisions on the control of liver fluke in breeding ewes.
Year of Publication2011
Liver fluke disease is costly to individual businesses and to the sheep industry. The model calculates the possible costs associated with all types of liver fluke disease in individual breeding-ewe flocks under different weather and grazing conditions and the likely benefits of types of flukicide medication. The hypothetical example provided highlights the costs and benefits of strategic use of a triclabendazole-based flukicide in a 500-ewe flock with 15% undrained grazing land. Information is provided on how to access the cost/benefit model and others online without charge.
