1586: Sheep statistics

This paper gives selected statistics from the EBLEX 2012 Sheep yearbook

Year of Publication2012

Despite subdued consumer demand on the home market, the supply situation resulted in record farmgate prices, with the liveweight price peaking at 259p per kg during May. Although prime lamb slaughterings increased on the year, a larger proportion of domestic production was exported while tight global sheep meat supplies resulted in a fall in sheep meat imports. The breeding flock recorded a 2.5 per cent increase to reach 14.2 million head – the highest point since 2007. The market fundamentals remain positive as global sheep meat production is not keeping up with demand.
