Does type of flooring affect stomach ulcers in finishing pigs?
A study examining the influence of environment and management on the incidence of stomach ulcers in finishing pigs on 16 commercial farms.
Year of Publication2011
Stomach ulcers can affect the health and welfare of growing and finishing pigs and limit their productivity. This study found that the provision of straw bedding for finishing pigs was associated with a lower incidence of stomach ulcers compared with slats or concrete floors. The availability of straw also had a small effect on reducing the incidence of stomach ulcers associated with feeding pellets compared to meal.
