Bull beef: increasing dietary protein reduces gross margins
A report of the effect of dietary protein rates on the physical and financial performance of intensive beef.

It is common practice to feed bulls a ration containing 15-16% crude protein till they achieve 250kg live weight and 14% thereafter. A comparison of intensively reared Holstein bulls showed, however, that feeding a diet containing more than 12% crude protein to animals of 280kg to slaughter weight produced no significant improvement in performance or carcase classification but did increase rearing costs.
