Dairy-bred calf weaning: abrupt or gradual?
Report of a study on the effect of abrupt or gradual weaning of calves on costs and performance.

Bull calves were all fed the same rations until one week before weaning when the milk substitute of one group was progressively reduced to promote gradual weaning. Calves performed better after gradual weaning, had reduced feed costs/kg weight gain but required more labour.
