Selection of stock bulls for profitable beef production

An evaluation of the effect of beef value on performance of offspring.

To test the importance of sire quality the performance and profitability of offspring of progeny of the top 1% and bottom 1% beef value Limousin bulls was compared. This resulted in a difference of £46/calf between top and bottom bulls. A comparison between the top 1% and top 10% beef value bulls still showed a difference of nearly £28/calf.
