Harper Adams' Gateway Guide to Johne's disease costs in suckler cows: a control costs calculator model
An overview of The University of Reading's online interactive calculator model to support decisions on the control of Johne's disease in suckler cows.
Year of Publication2011
Johne’s disease in suckler herds is costly to individual businesses and to the beef industry. The use of an interactive cost/benefit model shows how the benefits of health planning in a suckler herd can help in the control of Johne’s disease. The hypothetical example provided highlights the costs and benefits of improving management by incorporating strict hygiene measures, with additional culling of low and high parity cows which tested positive, in a 75-cow herd. Information is provided on how to access the calculator model.
