This information note has been written to help farmers and advisers to integrate carbon management with other agri-environment objectives. The agriculture and land management sectors have a significant influence on UK Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and carbon storage. Semi-natural habitats, such as unimproved grassland and woodlands, generally have higher amounts of embedded carbon per hectare than more intensively managed farmland. Environmental Stewardship can help contribute to climate change mitigation in two ways. By:- reducing overall emissions of GHGs; and- improving retention and sequestration of carbon in soils and vegetation.
