Sales of organic products decreased by 5.9% in 2010 but the rate of decline slowed down through the year and sales of organic beef (up 18%), organic baby food (up 10.3%) and organic textiles (up 7.8%) all rose. Dairy products and fresh fruit and vegetables are the most popular categories. Multiple retail accounted for 72.3% of the organic market. The UK’s organic land area decreased by 0.6% and represents 4.2% of UK farmland. The number of UK organic producers fell by 4.2%. Production of organic vegetables and organic milk both fell but cereal production increased.
