1529: Future English Beef Supply
This paper has been summarised from the Eblex publication, ‘Balancing the market - securing the Future for English Beef Supply’
Year of Publication2012
Global changes are beginning to impact on the meat aisles of British retailers and are influencing domestic producers. Domestic sales remain robust and global opportunities for our producers are on the increase. But the UK’s self-sufficiency in beef has fallen from 109% in 1995 to less than 80% today. Domestic producers are at the mercy of high fuel and feed and other prices and retailer power. Ultimately, retailers will need to operate more closely with their supply chain to safeguard against empty shelves and to continue to offer the best choice to consumers
