The economic downturn has accelerated the trend for locally sourced food. The trend is growing and has become the most important ethical criterion for grocery shoppers. 42% of shoppers claim they are prepared to pay extra for local food. Older and more upmarket shoppers are more prevalent amongst local food buyers.
