Has the recession affected the food-purchasing habits of consumers?

Results of a study, using focus groups, which investigated how food-buying habits of consumers may have changed during the recession of 2008 to 2009.

Good health can be assisted by eating a balanced diet but there have been concerns that the recession may have affected the ability of consumers to purchase appropriate foods. The results of this study highlighted some changes to consumer eating patterns whilst others remained unchanged. Fruit and vegetable consumption had increased, meat quality had not been compromised, the purchase of 'Fairtrade’ items had continued, but organic purchases had declined.
