Current levels of demand for water abstraction already present problems, and these are particularly acute during summer droughts. This is expected to become more acute in the coming century. South-East England has less water per person than Morocco and Egypt. Over a quarter of the ground water bodies in England are at risk of failing environmental objectives due to abstraction pressures.
