1425: Championing the British Food Chain
This paper is taken from the Executive Summary of Adam West’s Nuffield Farming Scholarship report ‘Championing British Agriculture’.
Year of Publication2012
We should shift our thinking from ‘improving public perception of agriculture’ to ‘improving public trust in the food chain’. To achieve this leaders from across the chain need to collaborate in building public trust in a food chain that provides safe, affordable food. This collaboration would benefit from an independent chair, capable of enabling the collaboration through impartial mediation. The US and New Zealand experiences have shown that it can take two years or more to build a significant support base plus funding to operate effectively. Lessons learned from this scholarship will significantly reduce that lead-in time.
