Improved dialogue and information flow between policy makers, scientists and farmers is vital if agriculture is to deal with population growth, dietary shifts, energy insecurity and climate change. Evidence-based policy will be essential to overcoming the lack of understanding between agricultural research and policy direction and to improve collaboration in the sector as a whole. What is needed is many paths of sustainable intensification based on a wide variety of systems tailored to fit local circumstances
