An introduction to the insulation of farm buildings

A two page technical note introducing the importance of insulation and how to identify suitable insulation materials.

Year of Publication2010

Insulation is an important and often overlooked consideration in farm buildings. Insufficient, damaged or inappropriate insulation materials can lead to increases in both direct and indirect costs. If the building is new these costs may be hidden as no previous data to compare with current energy usage will be available. Taking time, or appointing a suitably qualified person, to select the correct building insulation for the application, then ensuring it is correctly installed and, if necessary, suitably maintained is highly recommended. This two page technical note introduces and defines insulation, lists examples of the range of materials used in agricultural buildings and introduces some of the selection criteria for materials selection.
