The horse industry’s gross output is approximately £3.4 billion (farming’s is £13.4 billion). It employs 50,000 people (farming 550,000), 2.4 million people ride and there are between 600,000 and a million horses (10 million cattle and calves). There is scope for expansion in horse business but the industry needs to learn to work together more effectively.
