Year of Publication2011

Forecasts of farm business income for the current year show 64% increase for cereal farms but falls for livestock. Future wheat prices will largely depend on how much winter wheat has been drilled but there doesn’t seem to be much prospect of sizeable falls from current high prices. Farmer’s prices for milk have shifted upwards slightly. Beef prices in 2010 were lower than 2009 but could increase this year. In contrast lamb prices have been above 2009 but consumption has fallen so prices may drop too especially if there is a good 2011 lamb crop. Pig price increases in 2009 and 2010 have been more than wiped out by increases in feed costs.
