Profitability on UK farms fell by 4% in 2010 compared to the previous year. Crop and livestock outputs were both up but there was an increase in costs and a fall in the value of SPS and other payments. Andersons are worried about these figures though and think profits may be revised upwards later. The EU deal with the Mercosur group of countries is expected to produce a net benefit to the EU but could hit agriculture (especially beef, poultry, pigmeat, dairy and sugar) hard. The EFRA committee think plans to green the CAP are an unnecessary complication.
