Red diesel and fertiliser prices have levelled over the summer, cereal prices have been volatile, pig prices have fallen but the farmgate price of milk is slightly higher than a year ago. Bank lending to agriculture is 4% higher than the corresponding month in 2009. Minimum tillage was carried out on 40% of arable land, 78% of dairy cattle were housed in cubicles, most pigs were in straw beds and most laying hens in cages. There was a slight decrease in the number of new bTB cases in the first six months of 2010 compared to last year.
