Climate change series: Focus on beet
Factsheet 12 describes the opportunities and challenges presented to beet growers by climate change and suggests measures of adaptation and mitigation.
The beet industry is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The 2006 drought caused a 30 per cent loss as the summer rains happened too late to repair damage from the dry weather earlier in the season. However, by careful planning growers can take advantage of the opportunities offered by climate change, and manage the challenges.
