1562: Better business for horticulture and potatoes
This paper has been produced from the executive summary of the NFU Horticulture & Potatoes Board report, “Catalyst for change - Better ways of doing business in the horticulture & potatoes sector”
Year of Publication2012
British horticulture consists of over 4,000 growers and employs 37,000 permanent plus 56,000 seasonal workers but profits have gone down as has their share of our market - from 73% in 1998 to 60% in 2010. A lack of trust and confidence in the supply chain is a problem. The NFU wants to see and longer term supply contracts, greater price certainty for growers and more collaboration in scheduling promotions which should be production led.
