Choosing potato varieties to limit cyst nematode damage

An account of the use of tolerant and resistant varieties of potatoes to limit damage by the various cyst nematode species and pathotypes.

Potato varieties tolerant of cyst nematode damage still support multiplication of the pest; resistant varieties may be damaged by the nematode but restrict multiplication. Resistant varieties select out populations that can overcome resistance so control strategies involving resistant varieties should be designed to limit selection of virulent species and pathotypes.
